China Mobile's GSM Upgrade Tender Nears Conclusion

According to the China Business News, primary results of China Mobile's GSM network upgrade tender, estimated at 35 billion RMB (US$4.5 billion; US$1 = 7.7 RMB), have been revealed. In combination, indigenous Huawei and ZTE were awarded approximately 25% of the tender. Alcatel Shanghai Bell obtained 20%. Ericsson and Nokia, current leaders in the Chinese 2G market, secured around 50% combined. China Mobile is expected to conclude the tender procedure and sign contracts with respective winners in May 2007.
